The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that they are joining forces with American Media, Inc. (AMI) to develop and produce a talk show based around popular entertainment and gossip website Radar Online.
The program will utilize the well-established brand and extensive audience that Radar already boasts to bring the latest pop culture, lifestyle and reality entertainment stories to TV audiences. TWC and AMI are planning for the live daily program to offer a fresh perspective on the newsmagazine and celebrity format pioneered by the likes of Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition and with the added personality of late night talk shows like former E! hit Chelsea Lately.
Commented TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein: “We’re so delighted to be partnering with American Media and their Radar Online brand in this exciting new venture. Our television department has made a huge mark in the reality programming sector, and we’re so happy to be taking the next step into the talk show format. We aim to set ourselves apart from the others by offering viewers the widest range of stories out there and delivering them in the most entertaining way possible.”
“This is an exciting step in the continued evolution of Radar Online as it further establishes itself as the leader in entertainment and celebrity reporting,” said AMI Chairman, President and CEO David J. Pecker. “Partnering with the incredible team at The Weinstein Company underscores the trust and influence of Radar’s reporting and bringing it to life in an innovative, fresh new format for the news magazine genre.”
The project will leverage the world-class reporting team at Radar Online and draw upon their team of journalists and correspondents in New York, Los Angeles, and around the country.
Radar Online recently earned seven awards at the 2014 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards including top honors for Investigative Story of the Year. It has previously been honored as Best Entertainment Website at the National Journalism Awards (2011).
The site has grown to more than 15 million unique visitors per month since becoming a digital-first publication in 2008.
The Radar digital platform will play a key role in the experience, driving content and discussions to the show, making it a truly integrated TV and on-line offering and a place for audiences to share their stories, opinions and interact.
