And he's called Eric Carter, not Jack Baur!
So, let me say this loud & clear first. "24 Legacy pilot reminds you of 24, when it was great". And 24 was never really bad I believe, I enjoyed it until it's last season and then again in 24: Live Another Day. From the first episode, it was an amazing concept to pretty much see events unfolding in real time, in an hour show. And in 24 episodes of a season, as 24 hours of a day. Pretty damn cool!
Well the new show, is a spin-off of 24. Consisting of 12 episodes, the show follows the life of war hero Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) using real time method of narration. Miranda Otto plays Rebecca Ingram, the former head of the now revived Counter Terrorist Unit in Washington, D.C. It begins with Carter, an ex–Army Ranger who has returned to America, and the trouble that follows him back, compelling him to ask CTU to save his life, and potentially stopping the largest terrorist attacks on American soil.
The first 2 episades aired this week on Sunday, as the lead-out program for Super Bowl LI before moving to its regular time slot of Monday at 8:00 p.m. It did set it up to a good start. There was lot of good action. It was fast paced with story moving fast, and raising more questions to keep it interesting. The performances by entire cast were damn good. And it seems tone an interesting start of something quite intriguing to watch.
Will they be able to continue the action and high stakes environment for upcoming episodes? That has to be seen. the expectations from the CTU will be high, both interns of tech and reality, with some amazing shows that have come jin the meantime. The whole terrorism action genre is quite filled right now, with some good shows. And the baggage of original 24 remains.
One amazing thing on the show happens to be the diversity & inclusion. The lead happens to be a black man, without a specific factor there. The head of CTU is a woman. The potential presidential candidate is brown (the amazing Jimmy Smits). And there are other characters too. FOX has been doing quite well for inclusion with successful shows like EMPIRE. But creating more lead non-white characters, on a "general" show is a good thing for industry and the cause of inclusion. Thankfully with good casting and good writing, none of it seems forced. Congratulations to FOX and the show creators for being able to do that.
We look forward to more of that and more of 24 Legacy!
