Maqbool is Writer/ Director Vishal Bhardwaj's interntaionally, acclamined adaption of Shakespeare's Macbeth. It takes the mind of Shakespeare and puts it inside the body of India while staying true to it's timeless soul as a literary masterpiece. In it's cinematic reincarnation it takes the form, of the crime genre akin to the likeness, of films such as the Godfather in which Maqbool (Irfan Khan) a hit-man, bodyguard and trusted confident, of a powerful mafia don known as Abba Ji (Pankaj Kapoor) falls to the whims of persistent seduction by the don's mistress Nimmi (Tabu). He is torn between love and loyalty; as the tension grows the close knit mafia family begins to crack, and the inevitable bloodshed begins as predicted by two corrupt fortune telling police-men (played by the legendary Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah) that Maqbool would come to rule the Mumbai Underworld.
