La Llorona.  The Weeping Woman.  A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand.  The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations.  In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain.  Now her tears are eternal.  They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed.  La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own.  As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying.

In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm.  Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.

Beware of her chilling wail…she will stop at nothing to lure you into the gloom.  Because there is no peace for her anguish.  There is no mercy for her soul.

And there is no escape from the curse of La Llorona.

On April 19, 2019, this timeless Mexican legend comes to terrifying life in New Line Cinema’s “The Curse of La Llorona.”

The film is produced by James Wan (“The Conjuring” universe), Gary Dauberman (“IT” and “Annabelle” franchises) and Emile Gladstone.  Michael Chaves, who won Shriekfest’s Best Super Short Film in 2016 for “The Maiden,” makes his feature directorial debut.

The film stars Linda Cardellini (Netflix’s “Bloodline,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,”); Raymond Cruz (TV’s “Major Crimes”); and Patricia Velasquez (TV’s “The L Word,” “The Mummy” films). The cast also includes Marisol Ramirez (TV’s “NCIS: Los Angeles”);  Sean Patrick Thomas (the “Barbershop” films, “Halloween: Resurrection”), Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen (“Selfless”) and newcomer Roman Christou.

Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Michelle Morrissey and Michael Clear are the executive producers. The film is written by Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis. Chaves’ behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Michael Burgess, production designer Melanie Jones, editor Peter Gvozdas and costume designer Megan Spatz. The music is by Joseph Bishara (the “Annabelle” and “Conjuring” films).

RUDEBOY: THE STORY OF TROJAN RECORDS, US PREMIERE SET AT DOC NYC

Trojan Records celebrates 50th Anniversary with a new documentary on how Jamaican music launched a multicultural revolution

This is the label that scored a shed load of chart hits and provided a soundtrack that united the youth, black and white on the dance-floor – I know I was one of them. Recognised by any fan of Jamaican music as a mark of quality Trojan holds a special place in the hearts, minds and feet of the people and will do for generations to come.’

Filmmaker, DJ, Radio Broadcaster and Trojan fan Don Letts

Trojan Records’ 50th anniversary celebrations continue with the announcement that RUDEBOY: THE STORY OF TROJAN RECORDS has been unveiled as part of the line-up for DOC NYC.  The 2018 DOC NYC Festival will run Nov 8-15, 2018 – and the film’s US Premiere will take place on Wednesday, November 14. The film had its World Premiere on October 12 at the 62nd BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express®.

Financed and executive produced by BMG, the Pulse Films production, RUDEBOY: THE STORY OF TROJAN RECORDS documents the origins and the ongoing love affair between Jamaican and British Youth culture – all told through the prism of one the most iconic record labels in history, Trojan Records.

Directed by Nicolas Jack Davies, RUDEBOY: THE STORY OF TROJAN RECORDS charts the rise and impact of the legendary reggae, ska and rock steady label and its influence on music and subculture in Britain from the early ‘60s through to the late ‘70s. Defining a movement that brought cultures together through the power of music, the birth and journey of Trojan Records, and its wider impact on society, feels as vital as ever 50 years later.

Named after the flatbed truck that revered producer Duke Reid used to transport his soundsystem around Jamaica, Trojan was launched in 1968 by London based, Jamaican expats Lee Gopthal and Chris Blackwell.  Growing rapidly during its’ early years - due in no small part to the development of the skinhead working class youth movement that embraced Jamaican music as part and parcel of its culture - the Trojan bandwagon quickly rolled into the 1970’s, with the likes of Desmond Dekker and The Maytals flying high in the UK Pop Charts.

This important story is effortlessly brought to life by director Nicolas Jack Davies with fascinating archive footage, alongside freshly shot drama and new interviews with legendary artists including Lee ‘Scratch' Perry, Toots Hibbert, Ken Boothe, Neville Staple, Marcia Griffiths, Dave Barker, Dandy Livingstone, Lloyd Coxsone, Pauline Black, Derrick Morgan and many more.

Mundoloco CGI award-winning animation ‘Ian’ is based on a true story of a young boy battling disability loneliness

The emotional animated short film shares a true story about a disabled boy called IAN. This award-winning film produced by Oscar winner Juan José Campanella’s Buenos Aires based animation studio, took home the top prize (Oscar qualifying) at LA Shorts International Film Festival and several major international awards.

Ian was born with cerebral palsy. All he wants is to make friends, although it seems impossible to achieve when discrimination and bullying keep him away from his beloved playground.  However, this young boy is determined and won’t give up easily.

The film is based on Ian, a young Argentinian boy who suffers from cerebral palsy. He can only talk with the help of a machine and was teased daily when he visited his rehabilitation center by children from a nearby school. His mother went to the school to tackle this issue and found the school had no tools to teach the children that bullying is wrong, so she wrote a book aimed at children, about a disabled boy. Penguin published this inspiring book, which is simply titled Ian.

Director Abel Goldfrab was born in Buenos Aires in 1979. He studied Film Direction at the prestigious University of Cinema (FUC) in BA. At the tender age of 17, he won his first screenplay contest. Since 2010 he has worked with Oscar winner Juan José Campanella and has been a lecturer since 2004.

Writer/Producer Gastón Gorali is an award winning author, screenwriter and producer.  He produced and co-wrote the animated film Metegol. He has created, written and produced Films, TV shows and illustrated novels for Universal, Fox, Discovery Kids and Penguin Random House. He's co-founder of Mundoloco CGI Animation Studios.

Latin-American filmmaker Juan José Campanella has written, directed and produced box-office hits, like “The Son of the Bride”, “Metegol”, and Academy Award winner “The Secret in her Eyes”. He is also a two-time EMMY award winner.

In October Ian can be seen at Edmonton International Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, Chelsea Film Festival, Austin Film Festival and Naples International Film Festival.

BLOCKCHAIN STREAMING PLATFORM BINGE TAKES WORLDWIDE RIGHTS TO MACON BLAIR’S DARK COMEDY “THE SHITHEADS”

Slate Entertainment Group (SEG) has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Macon Blair’s The Shitheads starring Luke Wilson and Ron Funches, for its blockchain video on demand platform BINGE. Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill’s Rough House Pictures, Alex Orr (“Atlanta”), and filmscience will produce alongside Jeremy Saulnier, Blair’s Bonneville Films and XYZ Films.  SEG is fully financing the darkly comedic road movie with production to commence at the beginning of 2019.

Although a global streaming platform, SEG is committed to supporting the theatrical experience and will give selected films on the Binge platform theatrical windows.

Written and to be directed by Blair, The Shitheads, based on a story by Blair and Orr, follows a pair of deeply unqualified bozos who’ve been hired to transport a troubled teenage millionaire to rehab. While mayhem and general shenanigans do in fact ensue, it has not been confirmed at this time whether or not important life lessons are also learned.

“I’ve been carrying this movie in my head for years now which probably accounts for my pronounced physical deterioration,” Blair says, “So I am very delighted to have the opportunity to get it out of my brain and into the world with the help of these collaborators I admire so much. It’s dynamite to be working with SEG, who’ve been so supportive and enthused about the movie. I’m grateful to be a part of their new platform, a place I think indie film is really going to flourish.”

“We have a deep respect for Macon’s work.  It’s an honor for us to work with such a talented individual and launch The Shitheads on BINGE” said SEG Co-Founder and CEO Michael Moyal.  “Our platform aims to tell great stories and collaborate with unique and talented filmmakers.  We’re excited for the journey ahead as we continue to build the Binge library.”

XYZ Films, an SEG strategic partner, will oversee production on behalf of SEG and brokered the deal with CAA Media Finance, which also packaged and arranged financing for the film.

Blair previously collaborated with filmscience and XYZ on his directorial debut, the Netflix Original I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, which won the 2017 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. He has been developing The Shitheads with Fake Wood Wallpaper Films’ Orr since the two worked together on 2013’s Blue Ruin.

Blair, Wilson, Funches and Rough House Pictures are represented by CAA. Orr is represented by UTA.

At Cannes this year, SEG recently acquired worldwide distribution rights to the much-anticipated cryptocurrency documentary Beyond Bitcoindirected by Jake Witzenfeld. In addition to The Shitheads, SEG is building out a slate of original content and acquisitions across film and series.

Hulk Hogan + Gawker + Freedom of the Press = New Netflix Trailer - "Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press"

Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press is directed and executive produced by Brian Knappenberger; produced by Luminant Media and SubLA; in association with The Filmmaker Fund and Field of Vision.

Background:

When the online tabloid Gawker posted a surreptitiously filmed sex tape of professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, it ignited a high stakes legal battle that pit privacy rights against the first amendment. The staggering verdict bankrupted Gawker and its founder Nick Denton, but also exposed a shadowy figure behind the scenes -- Silicon Valley venture capitalist Peter Thiel. Nine years earlier Gawker had outed Thiel on its site and the furious billionaire had been waiting for his chance to destroy them.

The Florida trial happened against the backdrop of a contentious election. Thiel’s battle with Gawker, along with Sheldon Adelson’s secretive purchase of the Las Vegas Review–Journal and President Trump’s treatment of journalists, portend a sinister trend threatening a free press and has brought to light a potential threat to democracy. Are the very wealthy thwarting the First Amendment to silence critics? In an age of extreme inequality, how vulnerable is a free press that has lost most of its traditional sources of income? Perhaps most frightening, what could a billionaire with the executive branch at his command do to those who have angered him?

Check out the new trailer for the upcoming Netflix original documentary Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, launching globally June 23.

Journalists are trained to look for stories behind the stories. The reporters investigating the Hulk Hogan sex tape and the sale of the Las Vegas Journal-Review, however, found something unprecedented: billionaires covertly using their fortunes to silence the media.

Academy Award and Seven-Time Emmy-Nominated Filmmaker Joe Berlinger Completes “Intent to Destroy”

Academy Award and Seven-Time Emmy-Nominated Filmmaker Joe Berlinger Completes “Intent to Destroy,” a Definitive Documentary on the Armenian Genocide and the legacy of Turkish Denial

Hard-Hitting Film to World Premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, timed to Coincide with Annual Global Commemoration of the Mass Killings

(New York, April 19, 2017) Survival Pictures announced today the completion of Academy Award-nominated and multiple-Emmy winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger’s feature documentary “Intent to Destroy.” The film uses the on-set production of Oscar-winning director Terry George’s feature film, “The Promise,” as a springboard to explore the violent history of the Armenian Genocide and the legacy of Turkish suppression and denial over the past century.

“Intent to Destroy” is dedicated to the estimated 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide and to all victims of mass slaughter around the world. The film has been timed to world premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday, April 25th, which coincides with the 102nd Armenian Genocide Commemoration. There will be three additional public festival screenings in New York on April 27, April 28, April 29th - festival ticket information: http://bit.ly/2oEOJt5 - followed by a theatrical release later this year.

"When Joe Berlinger came to us with the idea of using the making of ‘The Promise’ as a device to pull back the veil and explore the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the legacy of Turkish denial of this horrific reality over the last hundred years - we were convinced that this was the perfect opportunity to make a definitive stand-alone documentary on the topic in a way that would be accessible to a 21st century audience,” said Eric Esrailian, Survival Pictures co-Manager and producer of “The Promise.”

Esrailian continued, “Joe’s unparalleled two decade-long track-record of making landmark films about social justice combined with his passion for tenacious investigative reporting, assured us that he was the perfect filmmaker to thoroughly examine this underreported, yet undeniable, dark chapter in recent human history.”

Although the documentary takes us behind-the-scenes of the first mainstream Hollywood production to challenge the taboo of making these kinds of films due to US State Department and Turkish interference, “Intent to Destroy” vastly transcends the behind-the-scenes genre. The film thoroughly explores the complex history of the genocide and its post-World War I denial by western powers and Turkish campaigns right up through present day. A wide variety of activists and scholars provide insight through thoughtful interviews, including those who maintain an opposing view.

“I am indebted to Survival Pictures for not only allowing me unfettered access to the set of ‘The Promise,’ but for also encouraging me to dig deeply into the history of the Armenian Genocide and its repercussions for today,” said Joe Berlinger. “United States government policy has aided and abetted the sweeping of this morally repugnant chapter of history under the rug. In this current age of alternative facts and fake news, it has never been more important to showcase the truth, not just as a way to understand the complexity of Middle East politics, but also to bring a sense of healing and closure to the families of both the victims and the perpetrators.”

According to the Tribeca Film Festival catalog: “Historians, scholars, and high-profile filmmakers come together in Berlinger’s cinematic exploration of the tangled web of responsibility that has driven a century of denial by the Turkish government and its strategic allies. ‘Intent to Destroy is a timely reckoning with the large-scale suppression of a historical tragedy. Berlinger confronts the fraught task of shedding light on the Armenian Genocide — whose witnesses and descendants are still fighting to be officially acknowledged as such by the international community — how it was carried out during World War I as the reign of the Ottoman Empire drew to a close, and how it laid the groundwork for the genocides that followed.”

The world premiere screening will be followed by a panel conversation with director/screenwriter Joe Berlinger; author and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Peter Balakian; singer, composer, activist and lead member of Grammy-winning metal band, System of a Down, Serj Tankian; producer Eric Esrailian; author/actor Eric Bogosian; and former US Ambassador to Armenia, John Marshall Evans. The panel will be moderated by the executive director at Human Rights Watch, Sarah Leah Whitson.

Survival Pictures presents a RadicalMedia and Third Eye Motion Picture Company Production in Association with Bloom Project. Directed and produced by Joe Berlinger with Eric Esrailian and Chip Rosenbloom also serving as producers; Anthony Mandekic, Patricia L. Glaser, Dan Taylor, Sheri Sani, Jon Kamen, Dave O’Connor, and Justin Wilkes are executive producers; Joe Berlinger co-wrote the film with Cy Christiansen, who also served as editor; Music composed by Serj Tankian; Bob Richman served as the cinematographer.
