NOV. 12 BROADWAY MUSICAL INFORMATION:

School of Rock, The Musical
Based on the hit film, this is a hilarious musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

Kinky Boots
Kinky Boots tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory and looking for a fresh idea. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, they discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair.

ANASTASIA
The mystery that fascinated the world is now the musical that’s captivating Broadway. A rumor is spreading across the land: the missing princess of the Romanov empire may still be alive. Then, a young woman appears with no name and no family, but with the drive to discover her destiny. As she sets out on an epic journey in search of her past, clues unlock and memories return. Could she be the one they call Anastasia?

BE MORE CHILL
Blending the contemporary with retro sci-fi, this thrillingly exciting, comically subversive, and deeply felt new musical takes on the competing voices in all of our heads. And ultimately proves, there’s never been a better time in history to be yourself—especially if you’re a loser…geek…or whatever.

About the Apollo Theater

The legendary Apollo Theater—the soul of American culture—plays a vital role in cultivating emerging artists and launching legends. Since its founding, the Apollo has served as a center of innovation and a creative catalyst for Harlem, the city of New York, and the world.

With music at its core, the Apollo’s programming extends to dance, theater, spoken word, and more. This includes special programs such as the blockbuster concert Bruno Mars Live at the Apollo, the world premiere theatrical reading of Ta-Nehisi Coates’s National Book Award-winning Between the World and Me, 100: The Apollo Celebrates Ella, the annual Africa Now! Festival, and the New York premiere of the opera We Shall Not Be Moved. The Apollo is a performing arts presenting organization that also produces festivals and large-scale dance and music works organized around a set of core initiatives that celebrate and extend the Apollo’s legacy through a contemporary lens; global festivals including the Women of the World (WOW) Festival and Breakin’ Convention; international and U.S.-based artist presentations focused on a specific theme; and Special Projects, multidisciplinary collaborations with partner organizations.

Since introducing the first Amateur Night contests in 1934, the Apollo Theater has served as a testing ground for new artists working across a variety of art forms and has ushered in the emergence of many new musical genres—including jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues, soul, and hip-hop. Among the countless legendary performers who launched their careers at the Apollo are Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, James Brown, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Dave Chappelle, Machine Gun Kelly, Miri Ben Ari, Sarah Vaughan, Gladys Knight, and Luther Vandross; and the Apollo’s forward-looking artistic vision continues to build on this legacy. 32nd National Equal Justice Awards Dinner Hosted by the NAACP LDF

(NEW YORK) – November 2, 2018 – Last night, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc (LDF) hosted their 32ndNational Equal Justice Awards Dinner (NEJAD) at the Ziegfeld Ballroom where they celebrated the achievements of several distinguished civil and human rights leaders and raised over $2 million to help further the mission of the LDF.

In front of an audience of 650, Marian Wright Edelman (Founder/President of the Children’s Defense Fund) and Judge U.W. Clemon (Alabama’s first African-American federal judge) received the Thurgood Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award, while theNational Equal Justice Award went to Bryan Stevenson (Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative) and philanthropist couple Dr. P. Roy Vagelos (Chairman of the Board, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) and Diana Vagelos (Vice Chairman of Barnard Board of Trustees and Vice President/Treasurer of the Marianthi Foundation, Inc.).

Additional attendees included author Ta-Nehisi Coates, “Insecure” actor Kendrick Sampson, Women’s March co-chair Linda Sarsour, Miss Haiti 2014 Christie Desir, and writer Jamilah Lemieux. TV and radio personality Jacque Reid served as emcee.

With the mid-term elections just five days away, voting was on everyone’s mind. LDF president and director-counsel Sherrilyn Ifillpresented a short documentary (produced by filmmaker Crystal McCrary McGuire) that chronicled the work of the LDF and the challenges they face in today’s political climate. The video featured commentary from LDF associate director-counsel Janai Nelsonamong others and underscored the evening’s theme of “Justice. Equality. Democracy.”

In keeping with that theme, Tony and Grammy Award-winning artist Renee Elise Goldsberry performed the inspirational song “People Get Ready,” once sung by Aretha Franklin whose music was highlighted throughout the dinner.

“I’m standing on the shoulders of people who did so much more with so much less,” said Stevenson during his acceptance speech. “My grandfather realized that slavery didn’t end in 1865, it evolved. So he taught his daughter – my grandmother – that she had to fight. We cannot celebrate civil rights if we’re not willing to fight. We’ve got to fight!”

Special thanks to National Equal Justice Awards Dinner honorary chairs Kenneth and Andrea Frazier, co-chairs Angela Vallotand Kim Koopersmith and the entire LDF staff.

HSA Masquerade Ball and After Party on Monday Oct 22 - Do not miss it!

ACTORS LIEV SCHREIBER AND CALEB MCLAUGHLIN  ARE AMONG THE HONOREES AT THIS YEAR’S BENEFIT GALA IN SUPPORT OF

THE HARLEM SCHOOL OF THE ARTS AT THE HERB ALPERT CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Masquerade Ball and After Party, one of the most anticipated events of the Fall season, will be held at The Plaza Hotel New York, on October 22nd

The HSA Masquerade Ball and After Party has become one of the hottest tickets in town, and one of the most anticipated events of the Fall season.  The Ball, returns to The Plaza Hotel New York on Monday, October 22nd, and will be hosted by Fox 5 morning show host, Lori Stokes.  This annual event attracts a diverse group of patrons, among them celebrities, socialites, politicians and press in support of arts education and more specifically, to champion and ensure the continuation of the Harlem School of the Arts at the Herb Alpert Center for the Arts, and the work it has been doing for more than 50-years.

This year, as in the past, a handful of individuals who represent excellence in the arts and education communities will be celebrated and awarded for their outstanding contributions.  These honorees include: actor Liev Schreiber, star of the hit Showtime series, Ray Donovan. A native of San Francisco, Schreiber grew up in New York City and attended Brooklyn Tech High School before going off to train at London’s Royal Academy of Arts and Yale School of Drama, where he received his degree. He will be the recipient of the Visionary Artist Award.

The Visionary Lineage Award will be given to both Amsale Aberra, famed fashion designer who passed away in April, and to her daughter singer/songwriter, Rachel Brown.  Amsale’s husband, Neil Brown will accept the posthumous award on her behalf and her daughter will be performing at the event.

Outstanding young actor Caleb McLaughlin, an alumnus of the Harlem School of the Arts, and one of the breakout stars of the Netflix series, Stranger Things, will be the recipient of this year’s Alumni Award.  Caleb will next be seen in director Steven Soderbergh’s film, High Flying Bird opposite another former student of HSA, Zazie Beetz who wowed audiences this summer as Domino in Deadpool 2.

Two exceptional educators will receive the Distinguished Teacher AwardRashid Silvera, a Harvard Graduate with a master’s in education, has been a devoted teacher of social studies at Scarsdale High and recently retired from the profession.  He was also a groundbreaking model who made history in the 1980’s, becoming one of only four African Americans to be featured on the cover of GQ magazine.  Tsyala Khudad-Zade, known to her students as Miss Delilah, came to the U.S. as an immigrant, from the former Russian state of Georgia, almost 40 years ago. She was hired as a music teacher at HSA by Betty Allen, the legendary mezzo-soprano, who followed the organization’s founder Dorothy Maynor, as President.  Miss Delilah is a beloved teacher and an esteemed member of the HSA music department.  These two extraordinary educators are role models, not only to the students they have taught, but to the teaching profession as a whole.   They teach because they love inspiring their students and because they are inspired by the children they teach.

A newly added component to the 2018 Masquerade Ball and After Party is the Teen Reception, to be hosted by actor/comedian Chris Rock and Malaak Compton Rock’s daughter, Zahra Savannah Rock and actor and honoree, Caleb McLaughlin.

Last year’s event raised a record-breaking 1.3 million dollars, essential resources that allow HSA to continue providing high-quality arts education and world-class training in an environment that is empowering, stimulates creativity, and builds self-confidence. Most of the approximately 3,000 young people that the organization reaches annually come from the greater New York Metro area, as well as, Westchester and the tri-state.  Many of these young creatives come from economically depressed backgrounds, and providing scholarship support is a vital component of the organization’s mission.  In addition to raising critical funds to help sustain the organization and its programs, the Masquerade Ball and After Party serves as an important stage to showcase some of HSA’s most talented and creative young students, and the world-class training that the organization and its impressive staff provide.

For more information on purchasing tickets and tables for the 2018 Masquerade Ball and After Party at The Plaza Hotel New York on Monday, October 22nd, visit https://hsanyc.org/fall2018benefit/.

Bryan Cranston, Joshua Henry, Jason Robert Brown- Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence

Last night, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence hosted their annual Bear Awards in honor of Jim “Bear” Brady in NYC, an evening that celebrated champions and real heroes in the gun violence prevention space.  Reflecting on one year after the Las Vegas massacre, the evening was inspiring, uplifting, and left guests feeling charged to create change.

ROY WOOD JR. (comedian and actor) opened the evening followed by remarks made from KRIS BROWN and AVERY GARDINER, co-presidents of Brady.  The recently launched End Family Fire PSA was shown to guests as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done. The PSA, which was covered in The New York Times, Good Morning America, MSNBC, Refinery29, Bustle, PEOPLE and NBCamong others, aims to raise awareness around the chilling statistic of 8 kids unintentionally injured or killed by an improperly stored gun.

A highlight of the evening was the live auction which featured items such as a set visit and meet and greet to MADAM SECRETARY generously donated by TEA LEONI, an ERIC CLAPTON experience at Madison Square Garden and tickets to The Golden Globe Awards official after party.  Amid the auction, BRYAN CRANSTON surprised both guests and Christie’s auctioneer ROBBIE GORDY by jumping on stage to offer two tickets to opening night of NETWORK, his new Broadway play opening this fall. The winner will enjoy two tickets, a backstage meet and greet, and access to the after party on December 6th.  After one guest rounded out the bidding at $11,000, which according to Bryan were tickets earmarked for his agents, he surprised the crowd again by offering a second pair for a matching bid, thus taking seats away from their “mooching relatives,” according to his wife who shouted from Table 8.

As guests finished dinner, BRYAN CRANSTON took the stage and joked about the mood changer that is Roy Wood to Walter White. He spoke about his outrage and despair for what he sees on television and reads in the news on an almost daily basis, and made reference to his upcoming Broadway play that is based on the movie Network by Patty Chayefsky. He read a short passage that was written back in 1975 but rings true to today.  After sharing startling statistics such as there being 9 gun dealers for every Starbucks in the country, he introduced Tony Award winning composer JASON ROBERT BROWN.  Brown, a 2018 Brady Bear Award recipient, took to the piano to perform “A SONG ABOUT YOUR GUN,” followed by a duet with multi-Tony Award nominee JOSHUA HENRY.

SARAH ULLMAN, filmmaker and founder of One Vote At A Time, introduced the Real Heroes portion of the evening - an opportunity to recognize the 2018 honorees including The Gun Safety Alliance, AMANDA WILCOX (Mother, Lobbyist, and Activist); JAMES SHAW, JR. (Father, Champion, and Activist); IVY SCHAMIS (Teacher, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and Activist); and AALAYAH EASTMOND (Student Survivor, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and Activist) who is using her voice to create real change.

Five real life heroes were honored for their work and a special performance took place as well. A full recap is below, along with a link to photos.

Built for the Way We Communicate Today: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ fuel new discoveries with Super Slow-mo video, best-in-class low light camera and AR Emoji for a more personalized way to express yourself

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduces the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, the smartphones that reimagine the way we communicate, share and experience the world. Made for the ways we increasingly communicate and express ourselves with images, videos and emojis, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ drive innovation with Samsung’s most advanced camera ever. Redesigned with a new dual aperture lens that powers an innovative low light camera, Super Slow-mo video capabilities and personalized AR Emoji, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ ensure you never miss a moment and make your everyday epic.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ deliver an enhanced entertainment experience with powerful stereo speakers tuned by AKG, surround sound supported by Dolby Atmos and a refined edge-to-edge Infinity Display – a key staple in Samsung’s design heritage. In addition, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will come with the new SmartThings app, which unites Samsung’s existing IoT services into one single, smart experience.

“The way we use our smartphones has changed as communication and self-expression has evolved,” said DJ Koh, president and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “With the Galaxy S9 and S9+, we have reimagined the smartphone camera. Not only does the Galaxy S9 and S9+ enable consumers to shoot the best photos and videos anywhere, it’s a smartphone that’s designed to help them connect to others and express themselves in a way that’s unique and personal to them.”

Camera Reimagined

Today’s cameras are for more than taking pictures – they’re for connecting and communicating. Consumers want a smartphone camera with state-of-the-art technology, so they can express themselves with high-quality images and tools to tell their own, unique story. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ cameras are built with these consumers in mind, with a Super Speed Dual Pixel sensor with dedicated processing power and memory that can combine up to 12 distinct images into one amazing, high quality photo. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ camera features include:

  • Super Slow-mo: Make every day moments epic with dynamic, slow-motion video that captures 960 frames per second. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ also offers automatic Motion Detection, an intelligent feature that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record – all users have to do is set up the shot. After capturing the Super Slow-mo video, users can select background music from 35 different options.

  • Low Light Camera: Good lighting is the secret to any great photo. But often, photos are taken in less-than-ideal lighting conditions and most smartphone cameras have a fixed aperture that can’t adjust to low or bright lighting environments resulting in grainy or washed out pictures. Similar to the way the iris of a human eye expands and contracts, Samsung’s Dual Aperture[1] (F1.5 – F2.4) automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, taking photos that are crisp and clear anytime, anywhere.

  • AR Emoji: Samsung lets users create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts just like them. AR Emoji uses a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyzes a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions, like winks and nods, for true personalization. AR Emoji uses a standard AGIF file format, so users can share their emojis across most third-party messaging platforms.

  • Bixby: Samsung’s intelligence platform, integrated into the camera, uses augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide helpful information about a user’s surroundings.[2] With real-time object detection and recognition, Bixby instantly generates information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at. Users can translate foreign languages and currency in real time with Live Translation, learn about their surroundings, purchase products seen in the real world from retailers such as Walmart and Sam’s Club, or track calories throughout the day.[3]

Entertainment Reimagined

Smartphones are often our go-to choice for entertainment, which is why Samsung created a device that offers premium sound experiences with stereo speakers tuned by AKG. Whether users are watching their favorite movie or streaming their favorite artist’s latest album, sounds are clear, crisp and rich in quality. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ also support Dolby Atmos enabled surround sound, giving the effect of 360-degree sound.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ audio experience is complemented by Samsung’s revolutionary Infinity Display. First introduced on the Galaxy S8, the bold, bright Super AMOLED Infinity Display blends right into the phone with virtually no distracting bezels. With an adaptive contrast enhancement, users can use their device even in direct sunlight.

A Device that Fits with the Connected Lifestyle

As the first smartphone to support the new SmartThings app, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are the central hub to manage every facet of the connected lifestyle at home, at the office or on the go. The SmartThings App will be introduced with S9 and Galaxy S9+ and will connect to other Samsung and non-Samsung devices.

For those constantly on the move, the next-generation Samsung DeX empowers a mobile lifestyle by bringing a large, full-screen experience to the mobile handset. With DeX Pad, a new docking system, users can easily connect the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to a larger monitor, keyboard and mouse to expand the mobile experience with enhanced document editing or even full-screen gaming. Users can transform the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ into a Touch Keyboard[4] and Touch Pad with the DeX Pad.[5]

The Best Comes Standard with the Galaxy Foundation
Samsung sets the gold standard for smartphones including IP68 water and dust resistance, and fast wireless charging. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ go a step beyond. The devices now support expandable memory of up to 400GB and are equipped with the latest premium application processors offering powerful performance, fast network speeds and sophisticated image processing.

In addition, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ give users the peace of mind knowing that their phone is protected by Knox 3.1, Samsung’s latest defense-grade security platform. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ support three different biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition – so users can choose the best way to protect their device and applications. The devices support Intelligent Scan, a new verification mode that intelligently fuses the collective strength of iris scanning and facial recognition technology to quickly and conveniently unlock a user’s phone in any environment. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ introduce Dedicated Fingerprint, giving users the option to use a different fingerprint to access Secure Folder than the one used to unlock the phone.

"You are strong", "You R brave", "U R fearless" - UR Bath & Body!

021317_CS_Naked_Mermaid_A.jpg

In 2010, Tracy Gunn, a former animal pharmaceutical sales rep, started UR Bath & Body in her kitchen. After a devastating layoff, a single mom with 2 kids, she invested $32 into making soaps to support her family and turned that into a seven-figure business. All the of products are handmade by those transitioning out of crisis. The company offers a place of employment that empowers and promotes women's independence from challenging family and abusive circumstances. The mission is too help uplift, reshape and rebuild the lives of those looking to regain their independence.

The Bronx isn’t just the birth place of hip hop – It’s the inspiration behind the UR Bath & Body brand. While visiting a women’s homeless shelter in New York City, Tracy noticed the director greeted each woman that walked through the door with a “UR” affirmation. "You are strong", "You are brave", "You are fearless", that inspired Tracy to create products to inspire a sense of self, naming each product after an uplifting attribute. UR Bath and Body products can be found online www.URbathco.com

We had a chat with Tracy, here are the excerpts.

  • What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

In 2010, I was laid off from my job as a sales rep and I needed to provide financial stability for my children but also needed to be mom first. Being an entrepreneur was the only option to be able to control my time as well as my financial independence.

  • What do you like about being in health and beauty business?

Growing up, my grandmother made soap and I developed my passion for making soaps from her. Producing products that people can identify with and gain some fulfillment is one of the things I enjoy most about being in this business. I make It a point of emphasis to interact with our customers as much as possible, and hearing how much they value our products and our mission drives me to keep going and pushing further.

  • Why is it important for you to focus on women empowerment, through your business?

Women have far been overlooked for many years. Women are very capable of accomplishing so much more than most women realize. Single mothers left to manage children and life often feel the options are few. I want women to know what they are capable of. If I can accomplish success from soap they can do it too in whatever outlets they choose to pursue. Many of our employees come from different backgrounds but strength is something they can all identify with. Every women is strong and capable of achieving, and we are all shining examples of that.

  • Any products for men? Any upcoming exciting products, news etc?

We are planning a men's line coming in the near future along with a children's line.

  • What's your most favorite and least favorite thing about NYC?

New York City is where my heart is. It is true that if you can make it there you can make it anywhere. There isn't one thing that I dislike about NYC. My absolute favorite thing about NYC is how it helped me create a business with a mission. Susan's place in the Bronx gave me the vision for my company's core values. The city as a whole possess a unique energy, I love the pace, people and the opportunity that being in a melting pot such as NYC can present. If not for NYC, I would not be where I am today!

Jamie Foxx bringing “shade” in Manhattan, with Privé Revaux Eyewear

Jamie Foxx in Manhattan bringing “shade” by Lapacazo Sandoval—special to Amnews .jpeg

I was strolling in Manhattan and minding my own business, and I ran right into a sly Foxx!

Academy Award-winning and all over “good guy” Jamie Foxx stepped into the eyewear industry, teaming up with Privé Revaux Eyewear a company that’s describe as being “built on a shared passion for style and quality with the goal of making it accessible in ways never seen until now. “

Mr. Foxx, one of the company’s brand partners stopped by the mid-town Manhattan location, which has a subway car prop in the rear, and the party started.  He “literally” entered to the sounds of salsa music being played by a popular Bronx band. Sporting a Louis Vuitton backpack that just might be a custom design, the gifted funny, funny, funny Foxx flirted as he moved through the crowd.

Foxx was loaded with jokes but when it came to talking about the frames on his handsome face, he was all about the business.

“Every one of the Privé Revaux sunglasses is just $29.95. That’s like nothing, you can lose...like three, and come back and buy three more,” Foxx joked. “Here’s the thing, I mean, you don’t have to spend a billion dollars to look great. Right?  I thought what if we do an affordable eyewear under $30? Even though it’s inexpensive, we’ll make sure we don’t spare any cost when it comes to making the product.”

He continued:  "Anything I wear and I post on Instagram, people automatically think it's high end.  That gave me an idea. I picked up the phone. I made 'that call' and bam affordable hotness."

The connection that Foxx was referring to was with “serial” entrepreneur David Schottenstein whose idea is to simply “disrupt” the eyewear market. To do that, and to ensure the brand’s success he turned to Foxx, as well as Hailee Steinfeld and Ashley Benson, who are all style ambassadors.

There are over 100 handcrafted and polarized designer frames (each costing $29.95) and it’s about the Privé Revaux Eyewear quality.   Each of the 100+ Privé styles is named to evoke a persona, from The Artist and The Socialite to The Boss and The Godfather, all to show that everyone can be anyone when you reframe yourself with Privé Revaux.

“What I love, what I really love,” said Foxx as he danced through the crowd, “is giving people quality and style. Style and quality. Quality…and style…and at a price that won’t lean on their wallets and that’s Privé Revaux Eyewear."

Lunch Box Pioneers Prepd Launch Two New Colors

Prepd, pioneering makers of refined lunch boxes for adults, have launched two trendy new colors in celebration of the brand’s second birthday. Available 5 February 2018, the new sleek Peach and Mint color options are bright alternatives to Prepd Pack’s classic turquoise design, and promise to brighten up the saddest of desk lunches.

Designed with convenience and wellness in mind, a Prepd Pack ($69) encourages users to create vibrant, diverse and healthful meals with its unique modular design and complimentary Prepd App, which features over 85 easy-to-make recipes that include a comprehensive nutritional breakdown for each dish. Prepd recipes are meticulously tailored to fit Prepd Pack’s BPA free containers perfectly, allowing for easy upload of nutritional data to the iPhone health app.

“The average American dine-out lunch costs an eye-watering $11.14 and food waste is common due to oversized portions. The average Prepd lunch only costs $6.30 — an almost 200% saving, and smart meal planning can prevent quality ingredients from ending up in the trash. Our app provides meal inspiration and helps users track both calorie intake and daily nutrition at the touch of a button,” says Co-Founder Chris Place. “We couldn’t be happier about the positive impact that the Prepd Pack has had on so many. Not only is our growing community taking healthy lunches more regularly and saving money doing so, together we are also making a huge reduction in the amount of disposable packaging waste.”

Having been featured on Oprah Winfrey’s coveted Oprah’s Favorite Things list 2017 and collaborating with home-cooking icon Blue Apron to help their users pack their meal kits for lunch, Prepd’s success is set to continue through 2018 with two new fun colors joining the family. 7 FREE things to do for New Year's Eve in NYC!

New York City and New Year's Eve have lot more in common than just sounding similar by being called NYC and NYE! NYC is synonymous with NYE celebrations, the best known and most popular event being the New Year's BALL DROP at TIMES SQUARE. But if you do not have the patience to stay out like that for hours and hours, in this freezing East Coast cold, there are few other FREE things that you could do to celebrate New Year's Eve in New York City.

  • NYRR Midnight Run & Fireworks in Central Park: It's not FREE to participate in the run, but it is free to watch and party in Central Park. The party starts at 10 pm, with a LIVE DJ. And you enjoy the amazing fireworks too. You can also go and do some ice skating at Wollman Rink.
  • Staten Island Ferry Ride: It's a fun ride (for FREE!) to take any time of the year, but on New Year's Eve, you can enjoy the fireworks in Manhattan (also Brooklyn and Jersey City) while admiring the NYC skyline. You can also buy drinks and snacks, from the bar on the boat. Plus they have a toilet (unlike Times Square Ball Drop). Just make sure to get your winter coat, and stay warm!
  • NYE Fireworks in Prospect Park: Enjoy amazing fireworks with the background of beautiful NYC skyline at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Just make sure to RSVP.
  • NYE Celebration and Fireworks at Coney Island: Coming into its fourth year, guests can dance to live music throughout the night and watch some of Coney Island's most notable side show performances. Enjoy a fireworks display at the stroke of midnight at this free family-friendly celebration. Free live entertainment begins at 9:00 p.m. at the Steeplechase Plaza. Free admission starts at 6:00 p.m. on the B&B Carousel. And a lot more. Enjoy!
  • Hang around Times Square (SECRET TIP!): You may not be the "IN" crowd, being inside, but you can walk close to the celebrations, like around 40th Street, or 50th Street, on Broadway or 7th Av. You can go to a bar or pub, or just hang outside around midnight. You can hear the noise, you can somehow hear the music, and still be part of the fun from outside. Better than standing in the crowd, in cold, for hours and hours. And you an walk to the center after midnight, and get some pictures (and even claim that you were there!).
  • Just go to a bar/pub/restaurant: That's an easy one, you are in NYC! Go to a bar, pub, restaurant or anything. Most places have some special or something going on for the NYE. Specially bars and pubs. Just step out of house and walk in to any of the places. You'll have a good time. It's NYC!
  • Or just STAY HOME, and watch TV: Honestly, in this freezing cold, it's never a bad idea. That's what I'm going to do. Watch the BALL DROP on TV, or any of the Holiday or New Year's special movies, or Netflix/Amazon/Hulu. There's so much going on, that you can have an amazing time, just at home. And there's social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram etc etc) to connect with your friends and family, as you celebrate and welcome the New Year's.

HAVE A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR'S EVE AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018!
